This is Japan’s fourth World Cup Finals and we are now used to competing with the top teams. Our best tournament was in 2002 when we went through to the second round. We finished top of our group, ahead of Belgium, Russia and Tunisia. This time I think we’ll do the same or better. We have a tough group. The Netherlands and Belgium are great teams, and Cameroon won’t be easy. But… we have great team spirit and play well together. Our best player is Shunsuke Nakamura. He now plays for Espanyol in Spain, but spent some great years with Celtic in Scotland. We also have a great coach, Takeshi Okada. He has set the team the target of reaching the semi-finals. That would be amazing. |
